US stocks end 9-week winning streak despite higher closing

Nasdaq plummets 3.25% this week to record worst performance since September 2023

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks closed Friday with gains but concluded their nine-week winning streak due to weekly losses.

The Dow Jones was up 25 points, or 0.07%, closing the last trading day of the week at 37,466. The blue-chip index shed 0.59% over the week.

The S&P 500 gained eight points, or 0.18%, closing the session at 4,697. However, the index decreased by 1.52% for the week.

The Nasdaq increased 13 points, or 0.09%, to end the day at 14,524 but the tech-heavy index plummeted 3.25% to record its worst weekly performance since September 2023.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 5.5% to 13.36. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 1.5% to 4.046%.

The dollar index increased 0.05% to 102.48, while the euro shed 0.03% to $1.0940 against the greenback.

Precious metals continued their gains, with gold adding 0.1% to $2,045 per ounce and silver rising 0.7% to $23.17.

Oil prices were also in the green, with global benchmark Brent crude up 1.6% to $78.85 per barrel, and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude adding 2.4% to $73.93.
