ISTANBUL (AA) – The US stock market closed Monday with gains in a short session before the observance of Independence Day on Tuesday.
Despite a lower opening, the Dow Jones managed to climb back into positive territory by rising 10 points, or 0.03%, to end the day at 34,418.
The S&P 500 added five points, or 0.12%, to finish the session at 4,455. The Nasdaq increased 28 points, or 0.21%, to close at 13,816.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 0.15% to 13.57. The 10-year US Treasury yield, meanwhile, rose 1.16% to 3.863%.
The dollar index was flat at 102.97, while the euro remained unchanged at $1.0913 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold rising 0.1% to $1,921 per ounce and silver increasing 0.55% to $22.90.
Oil prices were down around 0.7%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $74.91 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $70.05.
The New York Stock Exchange will be closed on Tuesday due to the observance of Independence Day.
