US stocks higher at opening to end 3-week losing streak

Dow Jones up more than 200 points

ANKARA (AA) - Major indices in the US stock market opened higher on Friday to end a three-week losing streak.

The Dow Jones was up 205 points, or 0.65%, to reach 31,981 at 9.36 am EDT. The S&P 500 rose 28 points, or 0.7%, to 4,034.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq increased 121 points, or 0.1%, to 11,984.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 2.7% to 22.98. The 10-year US Treasury yield, meanwhile, was flat at 3.291%.

While the dollar index decreased 0.7% to 108.97, the euro was up 0.5% to $1.0048 against the dollar.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.3% to $1,714 and silver rising 0.5% to $18.63.

Oil prices were up more than 3%. Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading at $91.17 a barrel for a 2.3% gain, and the US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was around $85.39 per barrel – a 2.2% increase.
