US stocks lower at closing bell

10-year US Treasury yield jumps 2.7% to 4.186%; oil soars more than 2.5%

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major stocks in the US finished in negative territory Thursday.

The Dow fell 66 points, or 0.19%, to end the session at 35,215. The S&P 500 was down 11 points, or 0.25%, to close at 4,501.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq declined 13 points, or 0.1%, to finish the day at 13,959.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, lost 1% to 15.92. The 10-year US Treasury yield, meanwhile, jumped 2.7% to 4.186%.

The dollar index shed 0.1% to 102.50, while the euro rose 0.1% to $1.0949 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold trimming 0.1% to $1,934 per ounce and silver decreasing 0.6% to $23.58.

Oil prices soared more than 2.5%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $85.31 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $81.79.
