US stocks mixed to start new week flat

Precious metals in negative territory, oil prices decline around 0.6%

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stock exchanges were mixed on Monday to kick off the new week flat.

The Dow Jones was down 30 points, or 0.1%, to 33,097 at 10.20 a.m. EDT, while the S&P 500 was flat at 4,223.

The Nasdaq, on the other hand, rose four points, or 0.03%, to 12,989.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 3% to 21.06. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 0.34% to 4.906%.

The dollar index decreased 0.11% to 106.04 while the euro gained 0.36% to $1.0631 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold losing 0.3% to $1,976 an ounce and silver trimming 1.1% to $23.11.

Oil prices declined around 0.6%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $91.67 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $87.41.
