US stocks open Friday on high note

VIX volatility index falls 2.6%

ANKARA (AA) - US stocks were on a high note at the opening bell on Friday, extending their rally at the previous session as investors monitor developments after Russia's military intervention in Ukraine.

The Dow Jones gained 53.4 points, or 0.16%, to 32,277 at 9.30 a.m. EDT. The S&P 500 rose 13 points, or 0.30%, to 4,301.

The Nasdaq was marginally up 3.6 points, or 0.03%, to 13,477 points.

The VIX volatility index fell 2.6% to 29.53 while the dollar index was down 0.27% to 96.86.

Precious metals were on the decline as gold fell 1.79% to $1,891.9 per ounce and silver dropped 2.64% to $24.035 an ounce.

Oil prices were also down with Brent crude trading at $94.38 per barrel with a 1.09% loss and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $92.12 – a 0.74% decrease.
