US stocks open higher, trying to recover from losses

Oil prices up more than 1.7%

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks opened Wednesday with gains and they are trying to recover from losses in the previous session.

The Dow was up 11 points, or 0.03%, to 33,630 at 9.59 a.m. EDT. The blue-chip index lost 388 points, or 1.14%, to finish Tuesday at 33,618, recording its worst daily performance since March.

The S&P 500 was 12 points in the green, or 0.3%, to 4,285 on Wednesday. The index lost 1.47% in the previous session.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, increased 62 points, or 0.48%, to 13,125. The tech-heavy index dove 1.57% on Tuesday.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 1.9% to 18.57, while the 10-year US Treasury yield lost 0.7% to 4.529%.

The dollar index was up 0.33% to 106.58, and the euro was down 0.5% to $1.0516 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in the red, with gold trimming 0.7% to $1,886 per ounce and silver losing 1.5% to $22.50.

Oil prices were up more than 1.7%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $94.01 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $92.63.
