US stocks open in positive territory

S&P, Nasdaq hit new all-time highs

ISTANBUL (AA) - The US stocks opened Tuesday with gains, while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq reached new record highs.

The Nasdaq was up 20 points, or 0.11%, to 17,876 at 9.37 a.m. EDT. The S&P 500 rose 12 points, or 0.22%, to 5,485.

The Dow Jones, meanwhile, added 93 points, or 0.24%, to 38,871. The blue-chip index ended a four-day losing streak Monday.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 2.7% to 12.40. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 0.7% to 4.250%.

The dollar index was unchanged at 105.35, while the euro was steady at $1.0735 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in red, with gold losing 0.1% to $2,317 per ounce and silver decreasing 0.5% to $29.32.

Oil prices were up around 0.3%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.48 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $79.97.
