US stocks open lower as volatility returns

VIX up 3% after hitting lowest level since February 2020 on Monday

ANKARA (AA) - Major US stocks opened lower on Tuesday as volatility returning to the market created anxiety for investors.

The Dow was down 58 points to 32,672 at 9.50 a.m. EDT (1350GMT) with Morgan Stanley falling 0.6%.

While the S&P 500 shaved 4 points to 3,936, the Nasdaq was off 27 to 13,344 as AMC Entertainment plummeted more than 5%.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was up 3% to the 19.44 level after it hit its lowest level on Monday since Feb. 3, 2020.

The yield on 10-year Treasury notes, on the other hand, were down 1.5% to 1.656%.
