US stocks open Monday higher after posting 3rd straight winning week

Gold, silver in negative; oil prices rise over 2%

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stock exchanges opened Monday with gains after posting their third straight winning week.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 84 points, or 0.24%, to 35,032 at 10.06 a.m. EDT. The blue-chip index rose 1.9% last week.

The S&P 500 increased 13 points, or 0.3%, to 4,528 after the index recorded a weekly gain of 2.2%.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, rose 82 points, or 0.58%, to 14,118 as the tech-heavy index last week jumped 2.4%.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was up 0.3% to 13.84 at the time. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 0.5% to 4.464%.

The dollar index declined 0.4% to 103.51, while the euro added 0.23% to $1.0932 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold trimming 0.5% to $1,971 an ounce and silver decreasing 0.1% to $23.48.

Oil prices rose more than 2%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $82.34 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $77.68.
