US stocks open Monday on mixed note

VIX volatility index rises 3.3% to 17.11; gold adds 0.47% to $2,588 per ounce

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major US stock exchanges opened Monday on a mixed note.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 330 points, or 0.8%, to 41,726 as of 9.54 a.m. EDT (1354GMT). The S&P 500 rose six points, or 0.12% to 5,632

The Nasdaq Composite, on the other hand, fell 100 points, or 0.57%, to 17,582.

The VIX volatility index, referred to as the "fear index," rose 3.3% to 17.11. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 0.14% to 3.652%.

The US dollar index decreased 0.42% to 100.69, while the euro rose 0.5% against the dollar, trading at $1.1130.

Precious metals were on the rise with gold adding 0.47% to $2,588 per ounce and silver increasing 0.1% to $30.97 per ounce.

Oil prices rose around 2%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $73.02 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $69.29 per barrel.
