ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks opened lower on Tuesday.
The Dow Jones was down 380 points, or 0.96%, to 39,185 at 9.36 a.m. EDT. The S&P 500 fell 49 points, or 0.92%, to 5,194.
The Nasdaq, meanwhile, decreased 217 points, or 1.33%, to 16,179.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 8.7% to 14.87. The 10-year US Treasury yield increased 1.4% to 4.388%.
The dollar index decreased 0.18% to 104.82, while the euro added 0.18% to $1.0762 against the greenback.
Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.5% to $2,263 per ounce and silver increasing 1.8% to $25.53.
Oil prices rose 1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $88.31 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $84.67.
