US stocks open Tuesday lower

Gold trims 1.4%, silver falls 2.4%; oil prices lose around 1.8%

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks opened lower on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones was down 175 points, or 0.46%, to 38,212 at 10.18 a.m. EDT (1418GMT). The S&P 500 fell nine points, or 0.18%, to 5,107.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, decreased 30 points, or 0.18%, to reach 15,955.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 0.4% to 14.73. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 0.8% to 4.652%.

The dollar index increased 0.3% to 105.89, while the euro decreased 0.03% to $1.0716 against the greenback.

Precious metals were down, with gold trimming 1.4% to $2,304 per ounce and silver falling 2.4% to $26.48 an ounce.

Oil prices lost around 1.8%, as global benchmark Brent crude falling to $85.61 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $81.12 a barrel.
