US stocks open Tuesday mixed

Precious metals in positive; oil prices show small gains

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major stock exchanges in the US opened mixed on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones fell 114 points, or 0.29%, to finish at 38,954 at 9.39 a.m. EDT. The S&P 500 lost three points, or 0.07%, to 5,066.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, was flat at 15,976. at the time.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was steady at 13.75, while the 10-year US Treasury yield lost 0.05% to 4.297%.

The dollar index lost 0.02% to 103.81, while the euro shed 0.1% to $1.0839 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive, with gold adding 0.14% to $2,034 per ounce and silver increasing 0.14% to $22.55.

Oil prices showed small gains, with global benchmark Brent crude rising 0.64% to $82.19 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude increasing 0.84% to $78.23.
