ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks opened Tuesday with losses.
The Dow Jones was down 172 points, or 0.51%, to 33,834 at 9.56 a.m. EDT (1356GMT), while the S&P 500 was 35 points in the red, or 0.81%, to 4,302.
The Nasdaq, meanwhile, lost 130 points, or 0.98%, to 13,140.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 5.5% to 17.84, while the 10-year US Treasury yield lost 0.6% to 4.52%.
The dollar index was up 0.06% to 106.05, but the euro was unchanged at $1.0590 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in the red, with gold trimming 0.4% to $1,908 per ounce and silver down 0.7% to $22.97.
Oil prices were down around 0.1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $91.72 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $89.62.
