ISTANBUL (AA) - Major stock exchanges in the US opened Wednesday with losses.
The Dow was down 381 points, or 0.98%, to 38,481 at 9.48 a.m. EDT (1348GMT). The S&P 500 lost 41 points, or 0.8%, to 5,264.
The Nasdaq pulled back from the previous session's record-high close and fell 98 points, or 0.58%, to 16,922.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 9.5% to 14.14. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 1.1% to 4.592%.
The dollar index added 0.24% to 104.86, while the euro shed 0.15% to $1.0839 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold losing 0.75% to $2,343 per ounce and silver decreasing 0.5% to $31.93.
Oil prices were down less than 0.1% with global benchmark Brent crude at $83.93 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $79.72.
