Euro increases 0.4% to $1.0540 against dollar

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks opened Thursday with losses.

The Dow was down 68 points, or 0.2%, to 33,480 at 9.45 a.m. EDT, while the S&P 500 was eight points in the red, or 0.2%, to 4,265.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, fell 43 points, or 0.33%, to 13,049.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 2.2% to 18.63, while the 10-year US Treasury yield added 1% to 4.679%.

The dollar index was down 0.4% to 106.27, and the euro increased 0.4% to $1.0540 against the greenback.

Precious metals have continued their decline, with gold trimming 0.2% to $1,871 per ounce and silver down 0.4% to $22.49.

Oil prices were down around 0.8%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $93.75 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $92.70.
