US stocks rebound to close Monday higher

Oil prices increase more than 4%

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks rebounded from earlier losses Monday to close the session with gains despite a weak opening.

The Dow Jones was up 197 points, or 0.59%, to end the day at 33,604 and the S&P 500 rose 27 points, or 0.63%, to 4,335.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, increased 52 points, or 0.39%, to 13,484.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 1.4% to 17.69. The 10-year US Treasury yield shed 3.26% to 4.627%.

The dollar index was flat at 106.03, while the euro decreased 0.15% to $1.0570 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold adding 1.6% to $1,862 an ounce and silver rising 1.4% to $21.89.

Oil prices increased more than 4%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $88.06 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $86.28.
