US stocks rebound to partially recover from previous losses

VIX volatility index plummets 13% to 19.47

ISTANBUL (AA) - The US stocks closed Monday with gains to partially recover from previous session's major losses.

The Nasdaq rose 193 points, or 1.16%, to finish the day at 16,884. The tech-heavy index dove 436 points, or 2.55%, on Friday.

The S&P 500 increased 62 points, or 1.16%, to end the session at 5,471 after the index saw Friday a loss of 1.73%.

The Dow Jones, meanwhile, rose 484 points, or 1.2%, to 40,829 at the final bell. The blue-chip index lost 1.01% Friday.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the "fear index," plummeted 13% to 19.47. The 10-year US Treasury yield declined 0.14% to 3.703%.

The dollar index increased 0.42% to 101.61, while the euro declined 0.4% to $1.1040 against the greenback.

Precious metals also saw gains, with gold rising 0.3% to $2,505 per ounce and silver increasing 1.5% to $28.34.

Oil prices were up more than 1%, with global benchmark Brent crude priced at $71.76 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $68.64.
