US trade deficit for goods jump 7.7% in April to almost 2-year high

$99.4 billion figure largest since May 2022; deficit rises $7.1 billion from March

ISTANBUL (AA) - The US trade deficit for goods increased 7.7% to $99.4 billion in April to their highest in almost two years, according to data released Thursday.

The figure, which is the difference between imported and exported goods, is the largest on record since May 2022.

The trade deficit for goods rose $7.1 billion from $92.3 billion in March, the Commerce Department’s Census Bureau said in a report.

The expectation for the figure was to come in at $91.9 billion.

Exports of goods in April totaled $169.9 billion, which was $0.9 billion more than in March.

Last month, imports of goods were $269.3 billion – $8 billion more than the previous month.
