US working on maritime corridor for Gaza aid: White House

'We will continue to push Israel to facilitate more trucks going in and more routes being open so that more aid can get to more people,' says John Kirby

WASHINGTON (AA) - The US is working to open up a maritime corridor to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, the White House said Tuesday.

"As a matter of fact, as President (Joe Biden) just announced, the US will carry out airdrops of aid into Gaza in coordination with our international partners, particularly Jordan, in the coming days.

"We're also going to redouble our efforts to open up a humanitarian maritime corridor to lower amounts of humanitarian assistance by sea, hopefully large amounts by sea," National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said told reporters.

It is in addition to expanding deliveries by land, which the US has been "keenly" focused on for months, he said.

"We will continue to push Israel to facilitate more trucks going in and more routes being open so that more aid can get to more people. We're gonna continue to pull out every stop to get more aid to people who desperately need it," said Kirby.
