LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AA) - The 2022 CEV Women's Champions League winners, VakifBank, acquired Italian star Paola Egonu for the next season.
Following Sunday's final against Carraro Imoco Conegliano, the Istanbul club's chair, Abdi Serdar Ustunsalih, told TRT Spor that Egonu, 23, will play for VakifBank in the 2022-23 volleyball season as they signed a contract with the Italian player of Nigerian descent.
VakifBank beat Carraro Imoco Conegliano 3-1 to win the 2022 CEV Women's Champions League title on Sunday.
Egonu, one of the prolific players in women's volleyball, won the CEV Women's Champions League twice; 2019 with Igor Gorgonzola Novara, and 2021 with Carraro Imoco Conegliano.
Egonu has been an Italy player since 2015, helping her nation win silver medal at the 2018 FIVB Women's World Championship.
She represented Italy at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in which her team came sixth.
