ANKARA (AA) – The Asian Games have been postponed to next fall due to a coronavirus outbreak, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced in a statement on Tuesday.

The 19th Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China, from Sept. 23 to Oct. 8, 2023.

The tournament was originally slated to take place on Sept. 10-25, 2022, but it was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns in the country.

According to the statement, stakeholders including the Chinese Olympic Committee and the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (HAGOC) held discussions for two months to find a "window" for the games that would not conflict with other major international sporting events.
