NEW YORK (AA) – Wall Street closed higher Tuesday after strong quarterly earnings from major American companies.
The Dow Jones added 75 points to close at 18,161. The S&P 500 was up 13 points to 2,139 and the Nasdaq ended the day at 5,243 with an increase of 44 points.
Goldman Sachs reported its net income rose 46 percent and revenue were up 19 percent in the third quarter compared to the same period a year ago.
Incomes and revenues at Netflix and Bank of America also increased during the same period, the companies announced after markets closed Monday.
At the final bell Tuesday, shares of Goldman Sachs were up 2 percent. Netflix and Bank of America stocks gained 19 percent and 1 percent, respectively.
