US adds 222,000 jobs in June

NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market closed higher Friday higher with a strong jobs report.

The Dow added 94 points to close at 21,414 and the S&P rose 15 points to finish the day at 2,425.

The Nasdaq increased 63 points to end trading at 6,153 points.

The Dow rose 0.3 percent this week, while the S&P and the Nasdaq added 0.1 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively.

The U.S. added 222,000 jobs in June, according to the Labor Department, beating analysts expectations of 177,000.

Crude prices, however, were down almost 3 percent.

At the final bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was trading at $44.30 -- a 2.6 percent loss, and international benchmark Brent crude was at $46.79 per barrel -- a 2.7 percent decline.
