Crude oil prices loses ground

NEW YORK (AA) – Wall Street closed higher Monday with tock values at technology companies carrying the indexes.

The Dow Jones rose 17 points to end the day at 18,533 points, the S&P 500 was down up 5 points to close at 2,166 and the Nasdaq increased 26 points to finish the day at 5,055.

The Dow closed at an all-time high for the fifth session in a row, while the S&P posted a fresh closing record.

Stocks in Google increased 2.4 percent, while social media giants Facebook and Twitter saw their values rise 2.1 and 3.1 percent.

Crude oil prices lost ground.

At the final bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate traded at $45.94 a barrel -- a 1.5 percent loss, and international benchmark Brent crude was down 1.4 percent to $46.95.

The market will focus Tuesday on building permits and housing starts data for June.
