NEW YORK (AA) – Wall Street closed lower Tuesday as oversupply worries and a stronger dollar brought down oil prices.
The Dow lost 200 points, or 1.09 percent, to end the day at 18,128 points. The S&P 500 was down 26 points, or 1.24 percent, to 2,136 and the Nasdaq fell 81 points, or 1.54 percent, to 5,246.
The International Energy Agency said Tuesday that OPEC's oil output increased in September, bringing back worries about a glut of supply in the global market.
The value of the U.S. dollar, of which oil prices are indexed to, also rose against a basket of currencies.
At the final bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate traded at $50.81 per barrel -- a 1 percent decline, and international benchmark Brent crude was at $52.48 -- a 1.2 percent fall.
