NEW YORK (AA) – Wall Street finished the week strong as two of the three indexes on the stock market rallied to new record-highs after the July jobs report crushed expectations.
At the final bell, the Dow Jones soared 191 points to 18,543. The S&P 500 was up 17 points to 2,183, while the Nasdaq jumped 55 points to 5,221.
The S&P and the Nasdaq closed the day at all-time record-high levels.
On a weekly basis, the Dow increased 0.6 percent, the S&P gained 0.4 percent, and the Nasdaq was up 1.1 percent.
The economy added 255,000 jobs in July, the Labor Department announced Friday, beating expectations of 180,000.
In addition, the figure for May was revised to 24,000 from 11,000; and the June figure was revised to 292,000 from 287,000.
With the latest revisions, the last three month's average job gains increased to 190,000 from 147,000
