KAMPALA, Uganda, AA - Turkish Ambassador to Uganda Fatih Ak said Wednesday that he wants to see working journalists do their work safely.
His remarks came in a message to Anadolu to mark Working Journalists' Day, celebrated Jan 10 in Türkiye to honor the rights of journalists.
“We recognize the key role that working journalists play around the world, to ensure that people are timely informed and accurately exposed to diverse perspectives,” said Fatih.
“I congratulate all members of the press on Working Journalists' Day, who pursue their noble career with resilience, often under difficult conditions,” he added.
Rector of Tokat Gaziosmanpasa University Fatih Yilmaz commended journalists who work to convey the correct news to the public while enduring obstacles.
“Journalists undertake the important responsibility of delivering accurate information to the public by enduring all kinds of difficulties in order to defend the society's right to receive information,” he said. “The struggle of journalists to protect the freedom of information and to inform the public correctly is indispensable and extremely important for the future of our country. I congratulate the January 10 Working Journalists' Day of all our journalists who seek news and work day and night to convey the correct news.”
This year’s commemoration comes when journalists, especially those in Gaza, face enormous risks as they try to document the Israel war against Gaza.
As of Jan 10, in three months of the onslaught on Gaza, more than 100 journalists have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza as reporters to expose horrors committed by the occupying military.
