ATHENS (AA) – A wildfire in central Greece continued to rage for a third day, local media reported on Tuesday.
Saying that there are 406 fire fighters and 16 teams of “forest commandos, “assisted by over 20 aerial vehicles operating in the Corinth area, Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias said reinforcements from Italy and Croatia are also expected Tuesday, according to the state-run AMNA news agency.
“We’re facing a very difficult situation in Corinth. This fire presents many great difficulties due to the uneven terrain, which has very deep gorges and very high peaks," he said.
Public broadcaster ERT said the fire, which so far claimed two lives, has burned 50,000 stremmas (12,355 acres) of forest area in the town of Xylokastro.
