ISTANBUL (AA) – The United States advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup on Monday, beating Spain 2-1.
Megan Rapinoe scored twice on penalty kicks, with the first in the 7th minute and the second in the 75th minute, while Spain's Jennifer Hermoso scored in the 9th minute.
The U.S. will face World Cup host nation France in the quarterfinals Friday.
Sweden also advanced to the quarterfinals after beating Canada 1-0.
They will square off against Germany on Saturday.
