Global crude steel production totaled 1.85 billion tons in 2023, according to World Steel Association (worldsteel) data released on Thursday.
The steel production for the 71 countries reporting to worldsteel was marginally down by 0.1% from a year earlier.
Among the world's top 10 steel producers, India saw the largest annual hike with 11% to 140.2 million tons in 2023.
The figure for the world's number one steel producer China remained stable at 1 billion tons last year.
The steel production of Japan – the number third producer – dropped 2.5% at an annualized pace to 87 million tons in 2023. The figure for the US also amounted to 87 million tons, a rise of 0.2% from the prior year.
Türkiye, the world's eighth-largest crude steel producer, saw a 4% decrease in its output, reaching 33.7 million tons.
