ANKARA (AA) - World number two Daniil Medvedev advanced to the second round of the French Open after beating Facundo Bagnis on Tuesday.
The 2021 US Open winner Medvedev of Russia defeated his Argentine opponent with the sets of 6-2 6-2 6-2, to make a good start to the tournament.
Meanwhile, Denis Shapovalov, the 2021 Wimbledon semifinalist, said goodbye to the French Open after he was knocked out by 19-year-old Holger Rune of Denmark in three sets of 6-3 6-1 7-6.
In women's singles, Czech player No.8 seed Karolina Pliskova reached the second round of the tournament. She defeated French Tessah Andrianjafitrimo 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the first round.
