ISTANBUL (AA) - Race One of the 2021 Superbike World Championship in Indonesia has been postponed until Sunday due to extreme weather conditions.
"Following a heavy thunderstorm hitting the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit in the afternoon on the WorldSBK grid for Race 1, the start was delayed. Weather conditions continued to deteriorate, forcing Race 1 to be rescheduled for 11:00 AM on Sunday morning, with riders’ safety remaining paramount," WorldSBK said in a statement.
Sunday’s new schedule will include WorldSBK Race 1 at 11 a.m. local time (0300GMT) and WorldSBK Race 2 at 3 p.m. (0700GMT), the statement noted.
Both races will comprise 21 laps.
Pata Yamaha's Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlioglu, who took pole position, will look to clinch the 2021 title this weekend in Indonesia.
With a total of 531 points, Razgatlioglu is 30 points ahead of second-place Jonathan Rea, the British racer of the Kawasaki team.
