Yemen rebels claim drone attack on Saudi airbase

There was no comment from Saudi-led coalition on Houthi claim

SANAA, Yemen (AA) - Houthi rebels in Yemen on Monday claimed to have carried out a drone attack on an airbase in southern Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, rebel spokesman Yahya Saree said the attack targeted King Khalid Airbase in Khamis Mushait city.

The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen has yet to comment on the Houthi claim.

Yemen has been ravaged by violence and instability since 2014, when Houthi rebels captured much of the country, including the capital Sanaa.

The crisis escalated in 2015 when the Saudi-led coalition launched a devastating air campaign aimed at rolling back Houthi territorial gains.

It has since caused one of the world’s worst man-made humanitarian crises, with 80% of the population in need of assistance and protection.
