Slovenian premier facing corruption probe

Commission suspects Robert Golob of breach of integrity in allegedly pressuring then-Interior Minister Tatjana Bobnar

By Talha Ozturk

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - Slovenia’s prime minister is being investigated over suspicions that he breached integrity with unauthorized pressure on Interior Ministry employees.

According to the state-run RTV Slovenija, an anti-corruption commission launched a preliminary investigation into the case based on a report received last December. The report alleged that Prime Minister Robert Golob pressured then-Interior Minister Tatjana Bobnar and other ministry employees, resulting in Bobnar’s resignation last December.

Some of the allegations from the report are still being checked in a preliminary examination, said the commission in a statement.

The statement added that the suspicions of violations will be confirmed or rejected based on further investigations.

The Prime Minister’s Office said Golob had received a notification from the commission about starting the investigation, adding that he would “present all relevant facts and thereby disprove all suspicions.”
