ISTANBUL (AA) - Soldiers have been deployed in Thailand's northern region to rescue residents trapped in villages due to flash floods and landslides.
The floods, which struck the Khun Yuam district in the mountainous Mae Hong Son province on Tuesday, have left around 400 people stranded, according to Thai Public Broadcasting Service.
Authorities have been delivering food, medicine, and drinking water to those affected. One fatality has been reported, but students trapped in a school in Mae Kopee village were successfully evacuated.
Mudslides have blocked roads, making many residential areas accessible only by foot.
Thailand’s National Water Resources Office has issued a warning for flash floods and mudslides in several districts across the northern, northeastern, and eastern provinces, expected to begin on Friday.
