Somali authorities handover Mogadishu hospital to Türkiye

Deva Hospital was closed due to links with FETO terror group in 2016

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AA) - Somali authorities have handed over the management of Deva Hospital in Mogadishu to Türkiye in a ceremony attended by Turkish Ambassador Ibrahim Mete Yagli.

The hospital is one of the several institutions Somalia closed due to links with the FETO terror group, which was involved in the 2016 defeated coup in Türkiye.

The facility has now reopened as part of the Recep Erdogan Training and Research Hospital.

"On September 17th, the keys to the previously dilapidated Deva Hospital in Mogadishu were handed over to Amb. Ibrahim M. Yağlı and Head Doctor Mevlüt Karataş by Somali authorities," the Turkish Embassy in Somalia said in a statement on Monday.

“Following the completion of renovations, this newly revitalized hospital will prioritize delivering vital care to women and children. We are proud that it will operate as part of the Recep T. Erdoğan Training & Research Hospital.”

The research hospital is a 200-bed medical institution in Mogadishu, which Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan inaugurated in early 2015.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, or TIKA, the country's international development agency, undertook the project.
