South Korea, UAE agree to bolster defense ties

Defense Minister Shin Won-sik meets his counterpart Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Mazrouei in UAE

ANKARA (AA) – South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday agreed to enhance cooperation in the defense and arms industry, local media reported.

South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik, who arrived in UAE, met with his counterpart Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Mazrouei and agreed to strengthen their cooperation as "special strategic partners," Seoul-based Yonhap News reported citing a Defense Ministry statement.

Shin said that his visit to the Gulf country will open up new opportunities for further bilateral cooperation in the arms industry.

He will also travel to Saudi Arabia on Saturday where he will attend the World Defense Show in Riyadh.

Later, Shin will also visit Qatar.
