ISLAMABAD (AA) - South Korea and Vietnam held talks Friday on expanding trade and economic ties and discussed promoting cooperation in the nuclear power plant industry, according to local media.

Senior officials of the two countries discussed various topics, including the new US administration and the global supply chain, Yonhap News Agency reported, citing a statement from South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

"It is a crucial time to bolster economic cooperation with Vietnam, our third-largest trading partner, in a future-oriented manner as tensions are escalating in the global market with the new US government in place," said Kim Jong-chul, the ministry's director general for international trade relations.

In 2022, South Korea and Vietnam set a goal of expanding the volume of trade to $150 billion by 2030.

Senior officials from South Korea and the Czech Republic also met and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in energy, advanced technology, infrastructure and other areas.
