South Korean court reviews ousted president Yoon’s detention amid martial law probe
Court expected to rule within 24 hours after hearing

A South Korean court on Friday began a hearing on former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s petition for release, following his arrest last week over an alleged attempt to impose martial law in December, according to the Yonhap News Agency.
Yoon appeared at the Seoul Central District Court for the closed-door hearing.
On Wednesday, Yoon filed a petition requesting a court review of his detention, nearly a week after his arrest on charges related to his alleged attempt to impose martial law on Dec. 3.
If the court rules in his favor, Yoon would be released and allowed to stand trial without being held in custody.
The court is expected to issue its decision within 24 hours of the hearing.
On Thursday, Yoon refused to attend his insurrection trial for the second time, declaring that he would boycott all future proceedings unless special counsel Cho Eun-suk’s team is removed from the case.
He is currently being held at the Seoul Detention Center following the court-issued arrest warrant last week.
