ISTANBUL (AA) – South Korean prosecutors Wednesday indicted the main opposition leader on alleged remittances to North Korea.
Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung has rejected the charges.
Prosecutors in Suwon district of northwestern Gyeonggi province alleged Lee was involved in “an underwear maker's unauthorized remittance to North Korea five years ago,” Seoul-based Yonhap New reported.
He has been accused of asking Ssangbangwool Group to send remittances worth $8 million to North Korea between 2019 and 2020.
Lee was serving as governor of the province during that time when he also allegedly intended to visit Pyongyang.
It is the fourth court trial of Lee.
