Justices were appointed by former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo in April

ANKARA (AA) - South Korea's newly-elected President Lee Jae-myung on Thursday withdrew the nominations of two Constitutional Court justices made by former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Yonhap news reported.

Han was serving as the country's acting president when he made the appointments in April following the ouster of former President Yoon Suk Yeol over his abortive attempt to invoke martial law in December.

He had nominated Lee Wan-kyu, minister of government legislation, and Ham Sang-hun, a justice of the Seoul High Court, to replace two retiring justices.

"President Lee retracted the nominations that were made by former Prime Minister Han without authority," presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung told reporters.

Lee, a former leader of the opposition Democratic Party, was elected South Korea's new president in the snap presidential election on Tuesday.
