S&P, Nasdaq open lower after worst week since March

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks opened Monday with losses after the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq recorded their worst week since March.

The Dow Jones was down 80 points, or 0.24%, to 33,881 at 10.00 a.m. EDT. The blue-chip index fell 1.9% last week.

The S&P 500 lost almost four points, or 0.1%, to 4,316 after the index posted last week a decline of 2.9%.

The Nasdaq decreased two points, or 0.02%, to 13,210. The tech-heavy index lost 3.6% last week.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 2.5% to 17.64. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 1.9% to 4.523%.

The dollar index was up 0.3% to 105.88, while the euro decreased 0.56% to $1.0593 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold trimming 0.2% to $1,922 per ounce and silver decreasing 0.9% to $23.34.

Oil prices lost around 0.3% with global benchmark Brent crude at $91.72 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $89.65.
