ISTANBUL (AA) - Spanish police have arrested a 74-year-old man suspected of being behind letter bombs sent late last year to several high-profile political and defense targets, including the country's prime minister, local media reported Wednesday.
The man was a retiree from the city of Miranda de Ebro in the autonomous community of Castile and Leon, who was living alone with no known affiliation to any political group, reported broadcaster La Sexta.
Letter bombs addressed to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, the Ukrainian Embassy, arms company Instalaza, the Torrejon Air Base, the EU Satellite Center, the Defense Ministry, and the US Embassy were received between Nov. 24 and Dec. 2.
All had "similar characteristics," with brown envelopes, and were sent from inside Spain, authorities said.
One staffer at the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid suffered minor injuries when one of the letters exploded.
