Stratcom Summit 2024 to kick off Friday in Istanbul

Turkish president, foreign minister, communications director, among others, to address 2-day event focusing on AI's impact in communication

ANKARA / ISTANBUL (AA) — Türkiye is set to host this year's edition of the International Strategic Communication Summit, also known as Stratcom, in the metropolis Istanbul on Friday.

Organized by the Türkiye’s Communications Directorate with a focus on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence in communication, the two-day conference will feature an address by the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan via video message.

Stratcom 2024 will strengthen international cooperation, increase information sharing, and will be an important step to realizing solution-oriented approaches, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun has said.

The summit will start with opening speeches by Altun and Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz. The country's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will also deliver a speech during the event.

The UN's head of global communications, Melissa Fleming, will also deliver a video message.

Other participants include Walid Ammar Ellafi, state minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Zaid Makary, information minister of Lebanon, President Erdogan’s chief advisor Akif Cagatay Kilic, and Marie-Doha Besancenot, NATO's assistant secretary-general for public diplomacy.

The event will host 64 local and foreign experts from leading public- and private-sector establishments, along with civil society groups, media organizations, academia and think tanks from 30 countries.

About 3,000 participants from around the world are expected to attend the event, which will address a wide range of current issues such as public communication, new communication strategies, anti-disinformation and crisis management, and cyber security.
