KHARTOUM, Sudan / ISTANBUL (AA) – Sudan’s Health Ministry on Monday reported a decrease in cholera deaths in the Khartoum State.

A ministry statement said that 605 cholera cases, including six deaths, were registered in the state on Sunday, down from 12 fatalities a day earlier.

The ministry said the new cases were recorded in the cities of Karrari, Omdurman, and Ombada in the state.

According to the ministry, increased field clinics, sanitation teams, and health interventions among affected communities boosted recovery rates and reduced cases.

On Thursday, the ministry reported 1,375 new cholera cases and 23 deaths in Khartoum, plus 2,729 infections and 172 fatalities nationwide.

In August 2024, Sudanese authorities declared cholera a national epidemic.

Sudan's health infrastructure has been one of the most affected by the ongoing civil war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been taking place since April 2023.
