ALGIERS, Algeria (AA) – Head of Sudan’s ruling Sovereign Council Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan started a two-day official visit to Algeria on Sunday for talks with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Algeria’s state-run television aired footage of Tebboune while receiving al-Burhan at the El-Mouradia Presidential Palace in the capital Algiers.
No details were provided by the Algerian authorities about the content of the talks between the two leaders.
A statement by Sudan’s Sovereign Council said al-Burhan’s discussions in Algeria will cover bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern.
Sunday’s visit comes at a time when Sudan has been mired by fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group since April 2023.
More than 13,000 people have been killed, 26,000 others injured and around 7.6 million displaced since the outbreak of the Sudanese conflict last year, according to UN figures.
