Swedish police arrest suspect after vandalism at Moroccan Embassy
Man enters embassy, barricades himself, replaces Moroccan flag with LGBT Pride flag
By Leila Nezirevic
LONDON (AA) - Swedish police launched an operation on Monday after the Moroccan Embassy in Stockholm was vandalized, with an individual barricading himself inside and hanging an LGBT Pride flag from a broken window.
“It is a person who has entered the embassy and started breaking windows. He threw things around and then a flag has been hung,” Daniel Wikdahl, press spokesperson for the Stockholm Police, was quoted as saying by a local newspaper DN.
The attacker, yet to be identified, was taken into custody by the police. He is suspected of gross illegal trespass, vandalism and causing bodily harm.
A person passing by was hit with shards of glass, according to the police.
“I saw how a man kicked one of the windows from the inside. He threw the Moroccan flag onto the ground below,” a witness told DN.
“I also saw a woman who was riding a bicycle just below, who got shards of glass all over her,” he continued.
The investigation is currently being handled by the Stockholm police.
“We will need to hear from the embassy staff about how this happened. A technical investigation will also need to be carried out,” said police.
