Syria’s caretaker prime minister meets head of International Committee of Red Cross

DAMASCUS (AA) – Syria’s caretaker Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Bashir on Saturday held a meeting with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

"Al-Bashir meets with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric, and her accompanying delegation,” according to the Syrian state news agency SANA.

The agency did not provide further details about the meeting, which is part of a series of engagements between countries and organizations with the new Syrian administration, following the ouster of the Bashar Assad regime.

Earlier, Spoljaric arrived in Syria's capital Damascus after her visit to Lebanon.

Bashar Assad, Syria's leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime groups took control of Damascus on Dec. 8, ending the Baath Party's decades-long regime.

The takeover came after Hayat Tahrir al-Sham fighters captured key cities in a lightning offensive that lasted less than two weeks.

A new administration led by Ahmed al-Sharaa has now taken charge.
